Assistant Farm Manager

About Farmshare Austin:

Farmshare is a non-profit located on a 10-acre organic farm in Eastern Travis County. Our mission is to grow a healthy local food community by teaching new farmers, increasing food access and preserving farmland. We are small but mighty with ambitious programs in place to meet our mission. This includes Fresh for Less Mobile Markets to increase food access, Farmer Starter to teach the next generation of Central Texas farmers, and Farmshare Land Link to preserve farmland by connecting landowners with new farmers seeking land.

Job Description:

  • Assist Farm Manager with executing specific aspects of field crop production, harvesting and distribution

  • Assist Farm Manager in supervising Farm Starter students or volunteers in the fields to ensure that work is being completed effectively and safely

  • Assist the Farm Manager with special projects as necessary including capital projects and improvements

  • Assist the Farm Manager with activities related to the execution of the Food Access Strategy

  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work environment and follow established procedures and policies when accidents occur

  • Assist Farm manager in Organic Certification recordkeeping

  • Work with all Farmshare Staff to maintain an environment of equity and inclusivity in which people of all cultures, races, gender identities and sexual orientations are valued and supported

  • Follow all COVID-19 related SOPs

  • Other duties as assigned

 

Requirements: Education, Experience, and Skills

  • Experience and training in organic agriculture, at least 1 year.

  • Able to learn and apply new skills

  • Able to share understanding of agricultural and organic principles with students and volunteers

  • Able to exhibit and model punctuality 

  • Able to follow, model and share food safety and COVID 19 related Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)

  • Good communication and organizational skills

  • Self-starter, self-motivated and able to work independently with minimal supervision

 

Hours & Compensation

  • ​This is a part-time, contract position requiring up to 30 hours a week. 

  • The schedule is generally 7am to 2:30 Monday - Thursday, but is weather dependent.

  • The contract will start ASAP and go through January 15, 2021.

  • Compensation is $15 per hour, with some paid time off included in the contract.
