Louis feels humbled by the opportunity to produce nutritious food for the Central Texas community. Increasingly, he finds it difficult to understand the impact of what people consume. To him, farming humbles and guides his values in understanding the relationship between nutrition, consumption and the responsibility to steward land.
For the past several years, Louis has been working toward a master's in Agricultural Sciences at Texas State University, utilizing his conceptual knowledge of working biological systems in the soil to create a rich regenerative farm. This farm aims to increase biodiversity, support the creation of nutritious phytochemicals in food, and inspire others to deepen their relationship with food systems. He also feels very lucky, privileged and supported to pursue farming at Farmshare through the Central Texas Incubator Collaborative.
Louis continues to learn every day and approaches his work on the farm with humility and perseverance. He understands the challenges of creating a sustainable market garden business and looks forward to both the tribulations and the successes, with the most important goal being to feed others nutritionaly dense produce.
During harvest seasons, Louis can often be found at different farmers’ markets around Austin, where he sells a variety of vegetables and fruits. He encourages visitors to come say hi and dares them to get him talking about the wonders of kohlrabi!
