As a teacher’s kid and an older sister, Shay has always been perceptive and independent, working things over and making things work. Growing up in Katy, TX – a Houston suburb built on coastal wetland prairie – they were shaped by thick, noisy swamp summers and neighbors that took care of each other. 

 

Shay values autonomy, community power and working with their hands. They find motivation in learning about and working towards better ways of relating to land. Shay is inspired by scrappy design and resourceful, responsive solutions generated by those closest to the problem. Shay is a lifelong Texan and an alumnus of ACC and UT; e-graduating in 2020 after studying sustainability and design.
